The LGBTQ+ dating app is being sued in a class action lawsuit over allegedly misusing users’ data.

Don’t companies usually make you consent to let them use your data before you can use their site/app?

If a person puts HIV status on their profile, that data is obtainable even if it’s not visible, if you can search by it. Just filter out HIV- profiles, and if your profile shows up, you’re +. And if you can’t filter like that, what’s the point of putting that info on your profile at all?

On the one hand, a huge and unacceptable breach of privacy. On the other, wtf is someone doing in a dating/hookup app with fucking HIV?!

Disclosing a relevant piece of medical information and allowing potential partners to make an informed decision. HIV is no longer a death sentence, and prep plus other protection is highly effective. The only thing that is hard to protect against is the stigma and judgement from uninformed morons.

Status is usually positive/negative with past test date and if the virus is undetectable. HIV+ people on antiviral drugs with undetectable levels are perfectly safe, though partners should always protect themselves with PreP and condoms.

This kind of breach of trust is a big deal because if people believe their info is being shared/sold without their consent they are more likely to lie or omit this information and possibly put their partners at risk.

Looking for other HIV+ people, hopefully. They need love too.
