Existenz (stylized as eXistenZ) is a 1999 science fiction horror film written, produced and directed by David Cronenberg. The film follows Allegra Geller (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a game designer who finds herself targeted by assassins while playing a virtual reality game of her own creation.
An international co-production between Canada, the United Kingdom, and France, it also stars Jude Law, Ian Holm, Don McKellar, Callum Keith Rennie, Sarah Polley, Christopher Eccleston, Willem Dafoe, and Robert A. Silverman.
I describe this movie to people as “moist,” and have never been contested. It’s a fun one.
I suppose, in a Cronenberg sort of way.
Yes! It’s a much better and goopy Videodrome.
Wat. Videodrome is 1000 times better. And at least twice as goopy.
Long live the new flesh!
I hate that word but it definitely fits here.
Existenz and Avalon(2001), My two favorite millennial badass gamer chick cyberpunk virtualware flicks. Probably watched them each a dozen times back in the day.
And I don’t even remember Willem Dafoe, looks like I got myself a good excuse to watch them again.
I mean I only need to watch this one for Willem Dafoe, but, while I’m at it, you know.
Avalon, ehhh. Thanks for the tip!
Guess I need to check out Avalon. Never even heard of it until now, but being mentioned in the same regard as Existenz is enough to get me interested :)
…avalon, like the live-action film by the director of ghost in the shell?..
…i remember passing it over the shelves of blockbuster for several years, but never watched it…
Boy do I have no idea, haha. I watched that before I even considered the film crew behind the movies.
You blew my POD!!! Must have neuroseurged!
