On wednesday i have made the decision to not ride further into the southern european heatwave but booked a flight to Tromsø way up north in Norway, then try to make my way home from there. I can’t deal with the heat and the idea that it’s only going to get hotter (40+ in bosnia).

So i headed back north to Krk (airport is here). Cycling on roads on Krk really sucks, traffic wise, but there’s a bunch of MTB and hiking tracks which are a lot nicer although not really the most direct connection to places.

Spent all morning gathering materials and trying to find someone to help me loosen my pedals. Then i went again through terrible traffic to a campsite 2km from the airport, arrived at around 1:30.

The fact that this campsite then asked 47 € and i actually paid it will be a secret that i will take with me to my grave. I was just so done with organizing stuff, criss crossing around the island. Just wanted to eat something, relax, get out of the sun and be close to the airport, my flight goes in the morning. To be fair, this camp site is some crazy holiday resort with luxury sanitaries, super beach access, new cool looking pool, everything new here basically. Animation for the kids. Never seen anything like it. I also got a large area to put my tent on, in between the camper vans. No shadow though.

I will post a picture of my ‘box’ here as a reply when i lumped it all together tomorrow.

Puuh, what a stress again. But they accepted my box, haha.

Since it is transfer baggage i won’t have to deal with maybe stricter german controls, guys at rjk airport were really cool. Now i hope it all arrives in norway this evening.

Thanks for the update, read it with great interest. We won’t tell a soul about the 47euro campsite (ridiculous btw), but very understandable to just say whatever and go for it sometimes. Good for mental health.

That box (if that’s what we’re calling it) looks a bit iffy, hope your bike survives the trip. Keep us posted!

Hey ho. So my flight had a four hour stopover in my hometown, i took a train home, a shower, grabbed a beanie and another long sleeve, went to a supermarket because i was scared of the prices in norway, ate some poutine at the train station and then got a train back to the airport. All that was kinda weird and for a slight second i thought i might as well be done with the tour.

The flight to tromsø was three hours, i don’t know how i would be able to cycle all this distance i saw floating by beneath me.

The bike was the first item to arrive at the baggage claim. The ‘box’ held up fine, i had also only removed the pedals and the handlebar, didn’t touch the saddle, that was perfectly fitted so far, so setting it up again was real quick.

Just in my ‘sleeping stuff and kitchen’ pannier the lid of a glass of pasta sauce got loose and a bunch of oil leaked. It mostly all got soaked up by my sleeping bag liner. Not optimal. I cleaned everything the best i could, then cycled towards a campsite to wash my liner and really all the other stuff. Tried finding a gas canister for my stove but no luck. Tomorrow all shops will be closed. Apparently gas stations sell them, but not the ones i checked in tromsø. I am kind of relieved by the supermarket prices here, it’s not all that bad if i am not miscalculating.

Campsite has a kitchen, so i cooked pasta with the leaky sauce. There was a big indian family cooking up some incredible stuff in the kitchen, made my dinner feel kind of pitiful.

The temperatures are fine, it says it’s 12°C now, but i don’t feel cold. The sun won’t be setting for the next days. It’s cloudy, weather report says no aurora activity. Tomorrow the sun should be out for a bit.
