Canadian police have arrested members of an alleged hit squad investigators believe was tasked by the government of India with killing prominent Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, B.C. last June, CBC News has learned.

Sources close to the investigation also told CBC News that police are actively investigating possible links to three additional murders in Canada, including the shooting death of an 11-year-old boy in Edmonton.

    Assuming they’re guilty for the moment, which is worse?

    They stayed in Canada because they might have been assigned more missions as agents of the Indian state for whatever reason, or they stayed in Canada because that’s their home and it was just a job?

      Given they may have done hits previous to this one, it seems like the former is more likely.

      Honestly I wasn’t expecting anything nearly this extreme. A foreign democracy appears to have a hit squad roaming Canada killing Canadian citizens for political reasons. Even China didn’t go this far with their secret “police stations,” this is Russia-level BS. If confirmed then I’d be comfortable with quite a high level of diplomatic stink-up ensuing.

    Asked if there are any Indian “sleeper agents” in Canada, Teboul said it’s a “great question” but he can’t say more about it because it’s “very much at the centre of evidence and ongoing investigations.”

    This does not bode well for the Indian diaspora in Canada. I worry that anyone a shade darker than Toronto snow is going to be the focus of xenophobia.
