Anthony Housefather, an outspoken Jewish MP from Montreal, toyed with leaving his party to join the Conservatives after most of Trudeau’s Liberals voted in favor of a non-binding motion in the House of Commons that took direct aim at Israel. It’s the latest example of how the conflict is straining center-left politics across the globe — and challenging the place of Jewish leaders in mainstream progressive politics.

The progressive New Democratic Party had introduced a motion that called for the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state and a suspension of arms trading with Israel. Dozens of Liberals were said to be supportive. Up against a divided caucus, Trudeau’s government negotiated softer language, including support for a two-state solution and a halt to “further authorization and transfer of arms” to Israel.

challenging the place of Zionist leaders in mainstream progressive politics.

We really have to stop conflating Zionism with Judaism. Only the Zionists benefit from it.

And so, yet again, we learn that all our politicians are one small decision away from being conservatives. The only choice we have is how our money will be wasted, AI tech bros? OIl subsidies? Bailing out Air Canada? Why is “healthcare” never an option?

Why is “healthcare” never an option?

That private healthcare lobbyist money is just too good.

Justin’s value is preventing Pierre’s hellscape.

I know it, you know it, they know it. That’s why Justin’s barely trying to hold on, and that’s why Pierre’s entire platforms avoids people from reviewing their platform and he’s just throwing wild air-balls looking for a dunk.

Healthcare, like dental care, will be won by Jagmeet over Justin’s teetering minority as every good thing like it has been.

A person can be proud of their Jewish identity and treat it as very important without supporting Israel’s government. It’s not a question of whether you’re “a Jew first”, though Netanyahu and his ilk might want us to think so.
