8 dead and 40 hospitalized with a high probability that more will die all because some bozo decided to drive drunk? It wasn’t even a real “truck”, just a pickup truck. Absolute nightmare scenario.

A 2001 ford ranger isn’t even a large truck. I assumed it would be some post 2020 monstrosity

Yeah honestly surprised it wasn’t a dodge ram 2500 to keep up with their record of most DUIs

all because some bozo decided to drive drunk

“The bus, a 2010 International, was heading west on State Road 40 when, “for unknown reasons,” a 2001 Ford Ranger “traveled toward the centerline” and the vehicles sideswiped each other, Highway Patrol Lt. Pat Riordan told reporters.”

Just a thing I was thinking about last weekend while following a questionable driver. Whenever there’s an accident and one party is DUI, that party is automatically assumed at fault.

Say I’m hammered, but driving fine, staying in my lane, sane speed, all that, and another vehicle side swipes me, causing an accident. Interesting to think on.

If you’re impaired, you aren’t “driving fine”. That’s what impaired means. It’s not interesting to think on, it’s stupid.

It’s kind of assumed the opposite with commercial drivers. If you are out of hours, even if a drunk driver hits you, you are likely to be the one found liable since you shouldn’t have been on the road at that time.

Although this is common trucker or safety department wisdom, which is sometimes not necessarily true.
