This reminds me of a very extensive story I read about a truly awful for-profit facility called the Élan School. It was a long and harrowing read and it was pretty much too fucked up to be fake.
That was probably way worse than what’s going on here, but reading about Elan made me realize that “wow there need to be a LOT of super strict checks on what we let people do with our children”
Elan is unfortunately not an exception. These are all made in the image of synanon and they’re still prevalent
Yeah, it’s fuckin wild too, I personally feel that more people should know about Elan, but it’s sort of so insane that people just kind of mentally punch out immediately if you try to tell them about it because they don’t believe something so awful could even happen as the author of the comic mentions. Absolutely fucked…
More people need to read Joe’s story. It’s heartbreaking. It’s easy to say that bad things happen but it’s a lot harder not to care after reading something like that
I just read 30 something chapters of that. Is there any cause out there that combats places like this? I’d like to help or donate.

Sorry I kinda blacked out large chunks of it. I read it years ago and have learned more over the years (tbh idk if it was even finished when I read it). The control methods they use remain seared in my mind though. Fucking hell…

Oh yeah it’s long. I was aghast the whole time, I’m pretty sure I’d be seriously fucked up more than I am now if I went to such a place.
State lawmakers knew this would happen when they passed the law. It’s so obviously predictable, and the fix was and is so simple.
