I am fine with the careless driving charge.

As long as there is also a negligent attempted manslaughter charge (or whatever the charge for ‘almost killing people with your car you stupid fuck’ would be). Hopefully more than careless driving.

You would hope so, but I was once struck by a car when the driver negligently turned without looking to see if anyone was in the crosswalk. Hit my head, permanently damaged my knee, broke my nose causing permanent sinus issues… All she got was a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian. So there’s no way a cop is going to get off worse than that.

Also, here in Seattle, a cop hit and killed a pedestrian in a crosswalk when he was responding at high speed to an overdose call without having his lights and sirens on (edit: to be clear, he was going 74? in a 25mph, pedestrian heavy zone). He did not suffer any consequences other than locals hating him and the system that let him off.

That’s insane! Were you at least able to get insurance money from her to pay for healthcare for at least a little while?

Yes, but her insurance company (I know everybody who uses them loves them, but fuck you, USAA) naturally fought it tooth and nail so it took a couple of years to get the money. By then, my credit was shot because I had been a poor college student who couldn’t pay for the medical bills out of pocket. Great way to start adulthood–in debt with horrible credit, a crooked/stuffy nose, and a bum knee all because I went for a walk one day.

By the way, she also tried to fight her ticket for failure to yield to a pedestrian so I had to turn up to court and we went over the whole scenario that occurred. Her argument was that she didn’t see me, in the middle of the intersection on a sunny day wearing bright orange, so it shouldn’t count. Obviously that did not fly, so she had to pay her $67 ticket.

I will remember that woman’s name until the day I die.

That really sucks. I’m so sorry. What a profound injustice to you.

Thank you. The sad thing is that I would have forgiven her if she had just apologized at any point, instead of trying to make it out to be some injustice against her. I’m not exactly walking around carrying that grudge anymore, but I can’t say that I’ll ever forgive her without that apology.

Much like cars and urban areas, or cars and rural areas with wildlife, or cars and other cars. Damn cars, they ruined driving!

LOL… “there are no easy answers”… on one hand, you have people enjoying the beach and outdoors… on the other you have red necks driving irresponsibly and likely drunk… no easy answers, how can you choose?!

Well okay, yeah, but to be fair it was pretty good driving considering how frickin plowed he was.
