Pretty sure it’s meant to be claymation/stop-motion inspired.

Doesn’t make sense to not do that during gameplay though

I know, but I don’t get it, it just looks bad to my eyes, especially when everything else in the game seems to be running at 60fps or higher(the contrast makes 12fps look more like 4fps… 😅 )

Stop motion looks like that mostly because of technical limitations and to save time while animating: good animators use more frames when possible, e.g. Coralline

I guess imitating that style might save a little bit of time since the animators don’t need to worry about the keyframe curves… 😂

Again, I think it’s just a stylistic choice. Albeit a super inconsistent and jarring one.

They’d be nuts to release this without a toggle for stop-motion movement during gameplay.

I wouldn’t expect them to add a toggle, that would probably require exporting all the animations twice, unless they do a bit of a hack in engine to smooth it out, but that might look even worse tbh 😂

Or probably wouldn’t look so bad after playing the game for awhile as your brian will adjust, until you don’t play it for a bit and then come back to it 😂, Kinda like when you see the stop motion robots in the original robocop or terminator etc. “I don’t remember it looking so framey when it first came out”
