    What is the thing in the middle? It looks like a moat but I can’t figure out what “stats graft” could mean.

      Defensive ditch/moat. It’s Dutch, I think, so I wiktionaried graft and got

      1. (chiefly Holland) Obsolete form of gracht (“canal”).

        Native Dutch guy here: Gracht is the Dutch word for moat indeed. The picture is Dutch, though a 17th century version of it obviously.

      It’s got ducks swimming in it. I’m not a language scientist but that looks to be swamp German of one variety or another. Lowlands+duckies equals moat… Probably

        Did the ducks get any kind of armour or helmet? At least a cute little uniform?
