    Today I learned fish oil has military value:

    The reasoning was that fish-oil contains a high level of glycerin, which is a necessary ingredient in gunpowder. Further, Allied planners knew that Norwegian fish oil was instrumental in the manufacture of Vitamins A and B. These two vitamins, sometimes called “sunshine” vitamins, were critical for German submarine crews who rarely surfaced during daylight hours.
