It’s only “creepy” if you distance yourself too much from the concept of Death. In the past, having a portrait of yourself is very expensive. The advent of photography made this cheaper and often the death-photo is the only pictorial record of the deceased. We take for granted that we carry a photo-movie studio in our pockets today.
