Stolen data includes millions of AT&T customer phone numbers, calling and text records, and location-related data

[…] AT&T said the stolen data “does not contain the content of calls or texts,” but does include calling and texting records that an AT&T phone number interacted with during the six-month period, as well as the total count of a customer’s calls and texts, and call durations — information that is often referred to as metadata. The stolen data does not include the time or date of calls or texts, AT&T said.

It’s not clear for what reason AT&T was storing customer data in Snowflake, and the spokesperson would not say.

    sus

For its part, Snowflake says it now requires all new customers to use multi-factor authentication.

Like, not having mfa in the first place was so fucking irresponsible when they store that much data. What the hell is wrong with people?

AT&T has a very long history of spying for the government. It’s one of the reasons it took so long to break up their monopoly.

Yep. I used to say this decades ago and was called a crazy conspiracy theorist. When Snowden went public and confirmed it, they shut up

AT&T told the SEC it does not believe this incident is likely to materially impact AT&T’s financial condition or results of operations.

This is part of the problem. They don’t care, and don’t think it will hurt them. Why would they? No one is holding these corporations accountable.
