Nantucket, an island off the coast of Massachusetts, had a unique experience during the American Revolutionary War. Unlike many other regions, Nantucket was largely pacifist due to its Quaker population. The Quakers, or the Society of Friends, were against war and violence, and thus, Nantucket did not provide soldiers or resources for the war effort.
