New chess mode unlocked - on turn 15 the board is flipped. You can win by checkmate before turn 15, but after that you have to switch sides. That would put some real strategy into the game.

Anyone know a way to make this happen?

Every 15 turns the board is flipped probably works better because 15 moves is just enough turns to complete an opening. Should playtest both options whoever tries to make this.

Oh shit every 15 would be infuriating. I like it

Because we all know that strategy is the thing chess needs more of to finally succeed as a game.

Well at the higher competitive levels people just route memorize shit. By multiplying the number of play styles, but keeping the base rules it could reduce the amount of memorization and make the game more reliant on creative intuition

Fun tip: if you have a chess board with magnetic pieces, and it can be folded down in half, you can play with it folded to make it so that every time a piece is captured, it has the chance to fall and knock out another piece. It’s not a fair game by any means, but it’s very funny. Shaking the board slightly can increase the tension, depending on the strength of the magnets.

Here’s an image for reference, you play with it folded, but the starting squares are near the floor instead of sideways.

How about playing with a folded board so each player only has visibility of half of it? When you move a piece to the other half you must announce your movements and the other player moves the piece, similar to battleship

When you flip board, you literally take over your opponents material. Its mostly a controversial move.
