As I’ve mentioned a couple of times now, I don’t think that Trump lies per se, since that implies an awareness of and deliberate misrepresentation of a known truth. Nor do I think he’s delusional either though, since that implies a sincere belief in a false reality.

Rather, I think that the part of his brain that’s supposed to distinguish between truth and falsehood, and thereby guide and restrict belief, is simply broken.

So broadly, he wants to believe things that make him look good and/or make his competitors look bad, and since he’s entirely unable to distonguish between truth and falsehood, he just goes ahead and believes them. And that’s part of his appeal - part of the reason that he gets away with saying such things - because he’s 100% sincere. There’s not even a hint that he’s lying or dissembling or doubting himself because he’s incapable of it.

So for instance, he has this weird fixation on crowd sizes, and Harris has attracted some large crowds. He doesn’t want to believe that because it threatens his ego, so, unable to distinguish between truth and falsehood, he just goes ahead and doesn’t believe it. And he needs an alternate explanation, so he casts about, and AI pops into his head, so he just goes ahead and believes that that’s what it is. Done and done.

And it just now struck me - the fact that AI manipulation self-evidently was the first explanation that popped into his head means it could be worthwhile to take a closer look at some of Trump’s imagery…

I completely disagree. Maybe some of the small casual lies Trump thinks are real, but Trump absolutely knows he is lying on the Big Lies. The way to understand Trump is that he does not think dishonesty is a vice. Trump thinks that honesty is a vice. Trump thinks of himself as a master class liar and he loves that he is so good at it that he even fools some of his enemies. He has actually made many statements about this over his life.

      (1) Trump’s ghost writer on “Art of the Deal” who spent 18 months side by side with Trump says “Trump has a complete lack of conscious about lying” and that “He lies strategically.” and that his lying ability gives him a great advantage over others.

      (2) We have absolute proof that his most famous Big Lie, the ‘Start the Steal’ conspiracy, was something Trump planned before the election. Steve Bannon is on video tape admitting before the election their plan was that if Biden was winning, Trump is going to say he stole it. “Trump will say he is a winner, but that does mean he is a winner”.

      because he’s 100% sincere.

He is 0% sincere on almost all of his lies.

I knew Traitorapist Trump was a liar ever since his original whoppers.

“I can build websites for $3 each”. <-- he spend $8 billion on his social media site that duplicates lemmy functionality

    “Obama was born in Kenya”

But now his claim that Kamala’s airport crowds were fake despite abundant video evidence and hundreds of eye witness accounts means either dementia or insanity.
