Every artist, performer and creator on Patreon is about to get screwed out of 30% of their gross revenue, which will be diverted to Apple, the most valuable company on the planet. Apple contributes nothing to their work, but it will get to steal a third of their wages. How is this possible? Enshittification.
Apple is requiring us to switch over to their in-app purchase system for all iOS transactions or else risk being kicked out of the App Store altogether – and their in-app purchase system is not built with our same level of creator-first flexibility.
They would only lose the 30% done via iOS in app purchases, not everything. Alternatively patreon could pull the app and make their mobile website better, which is what I would do.
Correct. Still, apple needs to be broken up.
Thoughts on this one? I have become nauseous after a couple paragraphs.
People foolish enough to use a centralized, proprietary technology getting what they deserve. I hardly see what’s wrong.
Apple should double down, in fact.
You are right that people have responsibility for their choices. The fact that apple is even allowed to do this is bad though.
