Explanation: The Battle of Leuctra was one of the early major battles of the Theban Sacred Band, a group of professional soldiers made entirely of male-male lovers who made sacred oaths to one another, and served the democratic polity of Thebes. To the surprise of the Spartans, and most of Greece, the Sacred Band emerged victorious over the Spartans in the battle, and in several subsequent battles.
