To be honest I’d rather see them battling where they could win. I’m guessing that since he’s signing up as VP there are no state and local offices left for a socialist to win in minnesota.

Agreed. The Socialist Worker’s Party is definitely one of the smallest of the third parties. I have donated to them, and I have a paid subscription to their newsletter, but they’re little-known to most American socialists.

Which is too bad, because I love everything they stand for. If they were on my local ballot, they’d get my vote. But the more I read about them, the more I like them, so I may just use them as a write-in.

And with my current job and lifestyle, which allows me much more free time, I’m seriously considering volunteering and starting up a local chapter in my area.

Do they actually stand for that though. Wouldn’t groups that actually stand for that not be wasting time resources and money on such frivolous Pursuits. Sinking it into actually growing. Getting obtainable offices. And building local recognition for ideals and ethic?

I can’t take seriously any groups that I don’t see at least pushing a candidate here or there constantly. Just showing up every 4 years for the presidential. What’s the point in running for an office you stand no chance at getting. Where under the best case scenario you’ll have no impact, and under the worst case scenario you’ll help the person that least aligns with your ideals to get elected. There’s no logic, or strategy to it. Honestly it really makes you wonder if they’re not just being used for spoilers.

They do that. They don’t JUST run for president. They are pretty active in their community, and get around a lot.

But yes, to your point, I’d like to seem them become more aggressive in running in more campaigns than they do currently. In my local area, they did have one run for mayor.

Just showing up every 4 years for the presidential.

As I noted before, they don’t just show up and run for presidential campaigns. They are very very involved in helping unions get up and started, and they have had members run for offices (including governor) before, and running for mayor in places. My city had a local candidate from their party running for Mayor.

Honestly it really makes you wonder if they’re not just being used for spoilers.

But people on Lemmy wonder that about every single third party. Not everyone that runs against the duopoly is just trying to spoil or get trump to win.

And same goes for the people voting third party. Like me. I am NOT voting for Harris. Or Trump.

Do you happen to have a link of elected offices they currently hold? And assuming that they actually hold any significant number. Wouldn’t the most obvious next step be to move on to neighboring communities and try to repeat that success there. Actually building up a base of support before automatically jumping into National politics. State level House and Senate. Then state federal Senate and House. And then after they actually have a base of support go for something like the presidency?

No, I am not in the area, and like I said, they are not on my ballot.

Wouldn’t the most obvious next step be to move on to neighboring communities and try to repeat that success there.

Sure, I am not arguing against that. I am simply stating that they are not just a “oh let’s run for pres every 4 years, but do nothing else” party. They are very active in their local areas and trying to make positive change.

As for their success, I’m assuming not that great. But every third party struggles because of the current duopoly advantages. Does that mean the should just give up tho?

Third parties often face systemic barriers that make building a base at the local and state levels challenging, but that doesn’t invalidate the importance of running in national elections to push important issues into the mainstream conversation.

Focusing solely on local and state offices may be ideal, but in a political landscape dominated by two parties, national campaigns help raise awareness and rally support for future growth. And shift the narrative, which is a crucial part of building long-term success.
