Labour day parade? I thought labour day mean we get a rest, not to parade for the entertainment of others.
The unions will put it on to remind everyone who got them their day off
We sure need some reminders these days it seems
Edited to add: not a dig at commenter above whatsoever, more just a reflection on our (including my!) ignorance about the history of labor. Bout every little thing that makes working life better in the US came from organized labor forcing it to happen, and most of us have no idea.
In Germany, this would be literally Hitler. The next day, 2nd May 1933, he “coordinated” (coordination, Gleichschaltung) the trade unions, their offices were stormed and property was seized.
Today, the parades and rallies are held to show the politicians that workers and their trade unions have power, to demonstrate for freedom, peace, social justice, international reconciliation and human dignity. Thus, the rallies are not only hold by the trade unions, but other NGOs also participate.
