    How about physical buttons?
    And additionally also unsubscribe-but-keep-the-tech-I-bought-working-as-is buttons?

Seems like a reasonable safety feature. There are often signs with an AM radio station listed for broadcasts. And it requires less tech (and fewer issues) than cell service.

Often enough that I’ve literally never once seen one.

Has anyone here actually used AM radio during an emergency? I’ve used FM to keep track of a tornado once and weatherband a few times, but never AM.

Once. As a kid. Just because I had an AM pocket radio and the power was out due to a storm. Turned out to be a tornado warning one county over. Scared the bejesus outta me and I kept looking outside to see if there was any funnel clouds forming.

I’d hate for there to be any interference to the pristine audio quality of AM radio.

It may not be pristine, but it has a iconic, nostalgic sound.

Now if only we could disable the radio in the settings. I have never been in a car where the infotainment system didn’t randomly default back to the radio when it couldn’t connect to the phone or AA fast enough. It’s startling when randomly the radio comes on full blast because you might have been listening to a stream or podcast at a certain volume and then paused it when you arrived at your destination but didn’t reduce the volume. I want the radio but on my own terms.

Can’t let anything happen to our precious 24hr talk radio and Christian brainwash

Local stations, NPR, classical music, jazz, blues, local sports teams all broadcast on AM as well.

Maybe so. But make no mistake — this is the right wing talk radio lobby freaking out and pushing this legislation.
