UPDATED: Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia tweeted Friday that StreetsLA would be fining Universal Studios $250 for trimming trees without a city permit. He also said that “outdated l…
Another reason why fines need to % based and off your tax returns. No one is treated unfairly if they have a lot or not much.
Percentage of gross revenue. Movie studios are old hands at making profit disappear. John Cusack posted about how Better Off Dead had (according to the studio accounting) lost money over 30 years, despite grossing millions on a low budget.
Everything should be based on gross revenue - especially taxes. You shouldn’t get to not pay for all the infrastructure your country provides just because you spent too much on the business. The electric Co, water, suppliers, and contractor services get paid whether you make money or not. Government should be the same.
“If the punishment for a crime is merely a fine, then that crime only exists for the lower class.”
Fining NBC $250 is like fining an average person a few zinc atoms scrapped off of the edge of a penny.
That’ll teach em.
Maybe they should fine them $250 per tree. And maybe for vandalism too.
They probably can’t due to the way the old LA City laws were written. He atleast admitted those laws need to be re-evaluated. Will anything come of it? Doubtful.
At least it’d make the total cost for the violation $250 + [bribes to pay off the people deciding whether to reevaluate rates].
It might be more expensive for them to pay whoever is going to send that money than the actual fine…
Pathetic. Completely irrelevant to them I’m sure. Maybe some enterprising citizens will need to take enforcement into their own hands.
They probably spent more than $250 in labor just filing and sustaining this dumbfuck fine.
Oh please no more, they can’t take it.
