The Secret Service has used a technology called Locate X which uses location data harvested from ordinary apps installed on phones. Because users agreed to an opaque terms of service page, the Secret Service believes it doesn’t need a warrant.

    I hate to say it, but they’re not wrong.

    People agree to the terms, “track me, it’s fine” with a private company.

    Private company then sells that data to whoever wants to buy it.

    Fucked, but that’s how it works.

      The issue is that there should be laws to protect people’s data (as in you shouldn’t be able to collect it anyways). It may currently be legal, but it is wrong.
