There’s drama or politics every other day.

Desktops right now:

2 fucking display servers

xorg is terrible with touchpads and has no support for gestures

wait…Wayland has it! It’s as easy as switching right?

noo, if you’re using Linux mint you’re fucked because Wayland is still experimental on cinnamon.

alright, then let’s try something else? What do we have? GNOME and KDE. Thats literally it.

GNOME lags behind new features typically, lacks basic features and has no option to adjust touchpad scrolling speed in settings. The devs couldn’t find a way to implement it. Libinput-config was able to customise the scrolling speed but the main dev fucking backed out and it has no maintainers currently.

KDE has all of that, except it’s the ugliest shit ever if you’re on Breeze. There’s random bugs which are patched weeks later every other day. Font rendering is dogshit too.

other than that we got sway and Hyprland, which I am not interested in because I have absolutely no intention of setting everything up from scratch. And the reports of some or the other thing bugging out with Hyprland.

a lot of apps will still run in xwayland even if they support Wayland, like…? I have to create custom shortcuts for them just to get them running on Wayland.

So you got no option other than KDE and GNOME right now.

I’ll probably wait for COSMIC and Cinnamon Wayland before trying out Linux again.

Back to Windows we go. I’m tired. It was a long day.

Wayland is better than xorg in every way but linux on laptops not anywhere near Windows right now man 😭
