Explanation: During the Second Triumvirate, or Rule of Three Men, the future Emperor Augustus made a compromise wherein he would get the western part of the Empire, Mark Antony would get the eastern part of the Empire, and Marcus Aemilius Lepidus would get… Africa. Africa was a wealthy province - the wealthiest in the west other than Italy, even - but far from the equivalent of nearly half the Empire - and certainly not enough to challenge Augustus or Mark Antony!
When I reflect upon my life, I fear I am more of a Lepidus than an Augustus or a Mark Antony…
Lepidus got to retire, at least. There’s always that.
