Professional cult deprogrammer Rick Alan Ross joins WIRED to answer the internet’s burning questions about cults. What makes a cult a cult exactly? What are some signs you’re in one? How do cults differ from religions? Can a family be a cult? And why are Americans seemingly so susceptible to cults?
Rick Alan Ross tackles these questions and many more on Cult Support.
Life in America is often devoid of inherent meaning and belonging to the average citizen because it’s so often a money-fueled ratrace for survival or profit. When something comes along and provides that (or if you have been born into it), it’s astonishingly easy to get swallowed by the next cultish tribe needing more members to increase its control and influence. People deserve to feel that they have value and purpose. The government and the ultra-rich need to do more to provide the population with that if they don’t want cults and violent groups popping up out of the blue.
If you cheer when a CEO paarasite gets killed, you are part of the “peasant” cult 🤡
