    Taiwan from the late 40s to the late 90s was not the wholesome Taiwan you and I love today.

    On 2/28/1947, the police shot and killed a woman for selling (contraband)cigarettes. This made the locals uprising at the capital which led to a massacre of thousands of people which led to us having marshall law until 1992.

    It was only then, we declared ourselves a democracy and picked our first president in 1997.

    We are a very young democracy. I welcome you to visit my country and see how great we now are.

    The point of this is that this photo reminds us of the pain we went through to get to where we are today.
