I bet you it still won’t have continuous, smooth Bluetooth volumes though, so my loudspeakers will always be either too loud or too quiet. (Or is that because of some Bluetooth standard?)

Anyway, that’s one of the basic features I’m so surprised still hasn’t made it onto my phones. I always get grumpy when I hear of new features as long as that one isn’t here.

That indeed is a Bluetooth feature that supposedly makes audio quality better by only lowering the volume using the actual speaker driver instead of doing it digitally and potentially throwing away some quiet sounds. In theory, doing it this way is always better and should be preferred. In practice, many devices handle it terribly.

If you want to turn the feature off, you can enable developer options on your phone (settings -> About phone -> tap Build number a bunch of times) and turn off absolute volume. That will give you back software volume control with fine-grained adjustments.

Back in the day I installed a third-party app specifically to have smooth volume adjustment. I’m not sure you can do that on modern Android though.

    TL;DR

Android 16 will introduce a new Night Mode Indicator API to help apps automatically optimize photo capture in low-light environments.

Instagram and other social apps will use this to trigger Night Mode, thereby improving image quality and informing users when they are clicking images in low-light conditions.

Select devices, such as the Pixel 6 and above, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and others, already support the feature and display a moon icon to help users activate Night Mode.
