Summary
Thousands protested in Tbilisi as Mikheil Kavelashvili, a pro-Moscow ally of the ruling Georgian Dream party, was inaugurated president following an election widely seen as rigged.
Outgoing president Salome Zourabichvili, a pro-EU figure, refused to step down, calling herself the “only legitimate president” and vowing to fight alongside demonstrators.
Georgian Dream faces backlash for authoritarian policies, ties to Russia, and suspending EU accession talks until 2028, despite strong public support for EU membership.
The crisis has escalated with nightly pro-EU protests outside parliament.
Moscow has its puppets everywhere around them.
Moscow has its puppets everywhere worldwide.
We need more Luigi’s worldwide.
I was really hoping that Georgians would be able to put down Ivanishvili/GD. But then again it’s only been a few months.
I don’t doubt for a second that the elections were rigged. How could someone be elected legitimately while being against the EU when 80% of the population wants to join the EU. Joining the EU is a specific goal in their constitution.
