Where? And more exact date? Guessing late 19th? Guy is Buddhist and looks potentially Tibetan so I’m putting my guess for southern Gansu or Qinghai ;)

Beijing, some time in the 1870s or 1880s. I suppose by the nature of him being a traveller with a whole caravan of camels, he’s more likely than most to be very far from home
