That story is ridiculously short on details. Is it statutory rape because they were under 18 at the time? Was it coerced sex? Did she violently assault him?

I’m not saying I want a play-by-play, but the tiniest bit of information about what happened would help.

      Press Release

The New York State Police in SP Rochester have arrested Jerica J. Costich, age 35, of Rochester, on charges of Rape 3rd (E Felony) following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old detainee at the Industry Residential Center.

An investigation revealed that Costich, a Youth Support Specialist, engaged in sexual activity with the victim within the facility.

Costich was processed at SP Rochester, and Costich was transported to Rush Town Court for arraignment and released on her own recognizance. Judge Ryan Lang issued an order of protection, and Costich is expected to reappear on February 2, 2025.

it’s so unethical they mention the arrested person’s name. They are not even proven guilty yet

TIL there are ‘degrees’ of rape according to the law. Which is kind of disturbing.

And murder is murder, but it’s fortunate the law can see gradations in severity of crimes depending on the circumstances.

Please do explain how one rape is not as bad as another rape- without adding other crimes like physical assault, obviously.

No thanks, you’re starting this debate, you can learn the legal definitions. Pick your state, look up the statute.

Many felonies have degrees of severity but it sounds like you’re just trying to argue.

Yup. It starts at simple sexual assault, and gets higher punishments for using violence, drugs, assaulting a minor, and/or abuse of a position of power, as it should be.

What difference does the information make to you?

What a strange question. You don’t think that more information about a story is helpful for people to learn things?
