A transgender woman inmate serving her sentence in a women’s federal prison sued the Trump administration on Sunday, arguing that Republican U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent executive order narrowly defining sex violates the Constitution’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment, is “motivated by discriminatory animus” toward trans people, and forces “dangerous transfers to men’s facilities.”

Didn’t the Supreme Court say the president can’t be sued for anything they do in an official capacity? How is this one happening?
The suit is against Trump administration in relation to an executive order, not him personally (civilly or criminally).
They said that the President is immune from prosecution for “official acts.” That means he can’t go to jail for crimes he commits so long as they are official acts. Official acts is undefined, so it means whatever the Supreme Court wants it to.
This is a civil lawsuit.
