Following arguments on the Linux kernel mailing list the past few days over some Linux kernel maintainers being against the notion of Rust code in the mainline Linux kernel and trying to avoid it and very passionate views over the Linux kernel development process, Asahi Linux lead developer Hector Martin has removed himself from being an upstream maintainer of the ARM Apple code.

Hector Martin loves Rust. Some kernel maintainers don’t. Hector made some social media posts criticizing a kernel maintainer, telling him he should resign or be removed for trying to sabotage R4L. Rust folks seemingly thought that Linus would side with them but instead Linus was annoyed that he took the problem to social media and that maybe the problem is himself (Hector).

I have stopped my donation to Marcan. I hope he reconsiders and rejoins. Only then will I resume my financial support.

Marcan is continuing to work on Linux support for Apple Silicon and publish the results as open source.

Anyone else is welcome to wrestle with the anti-Rust upstream devs to get his work merged there.

Meanwhile, his patches will be available from him for anyone who wants them.

I understand that. Part of the reason I financially backed him was that he upstreamed his work. Without, I do not see a reason to support him any longer. If other maintainers who are upstreaming the code have a way that I can financially support them, I will do that.
