Whining about piracy for one
It seemed to more so frustration with entitled users who expected him to volunteer his labor more and more for them so they could get what they wanted for free.
The pattern is a common source of burnout for open source developers regardless of whether their software can be used for piracy or not.
There are always more people willing to show up and ask for new features then there are people willing to show up to do the work to implement them.
