Sharing intelligence with a country that is threatening you with tariffs at the drop of the hat seems stupid to begin with.

Imagine how much damage Trump will do once he starts wielding his dictatorial powers using big tech companies and cloud providers. If he banned them from servicing any country he could cripple their governments and critical infrastructure, who are all dependent on some combination of Windows / Azure, AWS, GCP, Cloudflare, etc.

If he wanted to invade canada the fascist secret police could push updates to all of Canadas Windows, Apple, and Android devices — that bricks them like ransomware at a set time and date — and disable all their cloud services; crippling the entire economy without firing a shot.

America’s former allies need to start the transition to Linux and non-US/distributed services NOW. It would take a decade under the best of circumstances.

Probably wise to even ditch US based distros like Debian and Fedora too.

I would have thought the US spooks would jump at the chance to get their hands on some ripe, juicy unencrypted data. I thought that’s what 5 Eyes was all about.

I think the US are just upset because UK didn’t want to share.

If all 5-eyes countries collectively bullied Apple into handing over the keys, they’d be all for it.

Between all of them (AUS/CAN/NZ/UK/US) I don’t think the UK would get voted out over this. Australia has wanted encryption backdoors for years, and make it a criminal offence to refuse decrypting data at government request.

      Yeah, kinda confusing.

They want the UK kicked out of the “spying group” because it was… spying?

There’s about to be three eyes because I wouldn’t trust shit coming from the U.S. right now. The UK should back down so there’s 4 eyes. 🤓
