Posted speed limits in nearly 200 Mississauga school zones will soon increase to 40 km/h

With the new amendments on local roads, City of Mississauga officials said the speed limit will remain 30 km/h from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, and outside that period will be increased to 40 km/h. The move was prompted by complaints from drivers that the 30 km/h limit was too low during times when there were no students and other people around.

Isn’t that normal that school zone speeds are only in effect during and around schooltime?

Seriously. In BC it’s 50km/h outside school hours (8am-5pm) or days. Unless signed otherwise, but I’ve never seen one different.

In Alberta, I believe playground zones are in effect until 9 pm. Makes sense in the summer, not so much in the winter. I don’t think something like Smith Ave in Burnaby should be 50 km/h though.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think all residential streets (2 lanes) should be 40 km/h limit. What’s the point of ripping 50-60 beside parked cars and people?

Standard is 30kmph(or 20mph), 40 is honestly a bit too fast for a residential area, but yeah kinda depend on how wide the road of the place and whether it’s directly in front of home or not. Anything beyond that is dangerous.
