Just finished this and thought it was fantastic. Only 6 episodes.

The six-part series follows the Manchester-based Lyons family: housing officer Daniel is married to Ralph, married couple Stephen and Celeste worry about their two children, single mother Rosie is looking for a new partner, and sister Edith is engaged in one humanitarian cause after another. Presiding over them all is their grandmother, the imperious Muriel. All their lives converge on one crucial night in 2019, and the story accelerates into the future, following the lives and loves of the Lyons over the next fifteen years as Britain is rocked by political upheavals, economic instability and technological advances.

    I watched it when it first came out, I was quickly hooked. Seems a little prophetic in some respects.

    Guess if would be a little too expensive to make Thompson’s character a CGI animated pumpkin with anger issues.

    Enjoyed it.

    Well made RTD fare. Him, doing what he does.
    Comes off a bit preachy and on-the-nose at times, and could have done with exploring things a bit more in places but it’s only 6 episodes and got to be fairly militant on right on so won’t argue with it too much.

    Oh, I completely forgot that I also watched this (“years and years” ago) until I read the plot description. I enjoyed it quite a bit as well, but it seems to really make an effort to portray things going from bad to worse as quickly as possible. I think the intent was to shock complacent viewers into thinking critically about how politics and technology could impact their daily lives in the near future.

    I expect if it was recommended to you it was because Donald Trump won re-election, as he did on the show (albeit non-consecutively), and Russia won the war in Ukraine. I think it goes a bit “broad” with its predictions after that (particularly around technology), but still interesting to watch and ponder.
