Hey everyone, I just wanted to provide a big announcement that Thunder is now available on the App Store! This includes compatibility with iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch (apparently), and Macs using Apple Silicon

The direct link to the App Store listing is here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/thunder-for-lemmy/id6450518497. As this was just published, it may take some time to show up within your country/region so if you do not see it yet, try again later!

The App Store version will follow the same version as Google Play and will be used for general releases. The TestFlight version will now be used for nightly/pre-release builds. Again, I’ll try to keep all the versions in sync with one another, but there may be slight delays in processing times due to the different platforms.

Thunder is a community-driven project, and all your contributions towards the project help shape the way it is. If you are interested in contributing to Thunder in any way, feel free to reach out!

If you would like to join in on the conversation for Thunder, we have a Matrix page here: https://matrix.to/#/#thunderapp:matrix.org

If you would like to check out the GitHub page, it is linked here: https://github.com/thunder-app/thunder

This app seems very nice, especially since it uses its own layout and not the same old that every other Lemmy app seems to use.

Agreed. I really like the UI and it stands out among the rest that look like different variations of the same layout. It does lag behind the competition a bit with features and stability, but I’m sure it will catch up pretty soon.

What features would you like to see in upcoming releases? Definitely check out the GitHub page and post bugs/feature requests, it’ll help make the app even better!

I’ll come up with a list and post there. I’ve been submitting feedback via testflight. Do you check those as well?

Btw, please don’t take what I said as a negative. I love the app and am excited to see it grow and just get even better. Thanks for all your hard work!

Hey! Thanks for checking out Thunder :D I try to look at feedback from TestFlight whenever I can, but it’s much harder to go through them than it is on GitHub.

I think the best way to get visibility on feedback is to post it directly to GitHub since that’s where I spend most of my time filtering and looking at suggestions/issues

Ah, I’m more of an enthusiast than a developer, hahah. Been happy to support and discuss project related things with darklight and the rest of the devs :) we’re all here because we love Thunder!

I have tried a number of apps on android for Lemmy and Thunder has been so far my favourite! Thanks for all the hard work on such a great app!

Since I tend to go by Thundernerd I feel like I have to try it out.

Like the others mentioned, the UI is refreshing, it feels slick!

ETA: I do notice a tiny bit of stutter when scrolling. Not quite sure why that happens.

The scrolling stutter on the feed can be smoothed out a bit by disabling external link previews. There is a bit of an overhead constantly calling out to external sites to scrape for an image to show. As for the comment feed. I think it could be better and I’m hoping it’s something we can improve on.

Your comment led me to take another look at where we display external links and I think there is an improvement that can be made. Currently that option I mentioned disables all external link thumbnails. But what we should do instead is only disable the image scraping and still show the thumbnails if Lemmy has them. Expect a fix soon :)

This ticks many boxes for me! Nice easy swiping gestures, double tap and hold to zoom on images, a lot of customisation of the feed ++

    I like it!

This is the app I would use on android if Sync wasn’t available! Actually that’s what I did.

Another small thing I noticed is that when looking at a post the buttons on the bottom of the screen feel quite close to the content/comments, it also overlaps some text when you’ve reached the bottom

Haven’t been on the Matrix chat in a bit, had no idea this was happening! Congrats, what an achievement!
