Health risk of EG.5, which is related to Omicron subvariant, judged to be low but may drive larger wave of infections

I prayed to God really really hard one time for there to be an end to COVID. That should have been enough.

We prayed and prayed and prayed for a cure and all we got are 3 vaccines we don’t want to take and doctors telling us we need to not do things we want to do, what could have possibly gone wrong?!?!

How can you say anything g serious happened to prevent the development of novel strains? What has been done to address the roots of the issue?

The Erisian Liberation Front of SW and Rural Missouri, on the other hand, fully supports naming diseases and pestilences after the Goddess, Unstable May She Reign, and objects only to the application of the moniker to such a benign viral variant. In the future, we and/or I would request that her name be applied only to particularly virulent and/or unpredictable diseases and pestilences. May her sudden wrath never find you.

This just means it’s a variant with changes to the virus’ properties. Might come with decreased vaccine efficacy, possible increased severity or spread, but it’s not necessarily an increased public health risk, that’d be a “variant of concern”, which is when the variant significantly changes the way the virus behaves.

Omicron was the last VOC by the way, VOIs haven’t been uncommon.
