    This one has probably been on my list longer than most. I love Chaplin, but haven’t ever gotten around to seeing this one. Thanks for the ping.

      It’s so good. People know the speech from the end, but the whole thing is worth watching. Chaplin said after the war that he wished he hadn’t made it, because he didn’t want to be making jokes about something that turned out to be so awful, but honestly to me it does a great job of bringing light into the real darkness. That scene on the roof (“There goes the barbershop…”) and then the speech at the end, that stuff’s not jokes, man.
