After the fall of Roe v. Wade, some travel hundreds of miles to get abortions. This is the story of a girl who couldn’t

Disgusting, just $2 million for maternal care? They spend more money on highways than they do for providing care so people can have healthy deliveries and abortions. I sure hope none of the law makers ever have to live in the hell they created in Mississippi.

WTF is wrong with this stupid broken ass country. Hey lets force woman to have a baby but not provide medical care or anything for the mother and kid after its born. How have we allowed life saving medical care to be for profit? How the fuck have “We the people” not burned this shit to the ground yet?

Because they might win the lottery!

Or because they’re sure that the oligarchs that picked this country clean having started in the 80s will whip their dicks out and start raining down golden showers of prosperity like they promised they would as long as we gave them all the money half a century ago.

The peasants have been too deluded into the false hope that they’ll one be the fuckers in this rigged system one day… so why tear down the system that’s beaten them down, when it’s their turn any day now to kick all the fuckees when they’re down like they were?!

TLDR snake oil salesmen never went away, they just took over. That’s why we don’t rise up. The vast majority would have to see through their obvious bullshit, and that’s too much for some, as they’d have to admit to themselves that they fell for it first. The sunk cost fallacy.

That and I am convinced that they keep most people just comfortable and distracted enough so that they think they have just a little more than they are willing to lose. You know bread and circuses, its been working for the last few 1000 years. I also have to wonder if the controlled media doesn’t keep people afraid and angry at their neighbor so that we don’t all band together and do something about it.

          Absolutely.

Then there are the overt threats for those of us that do see the wood for the trees.

Our homelessness problem is quite solvable, and not even that expensive to solve. It never will be because those human beings are intentionally used as props, with police visibly harassing them, all to threaten/scare the shit out of people like us.

“You see us? Ok peasant, feel free to fight back or refuse to participate. If you won’t be a good little capital battery, we’ll make you a rigged capitalism scarecrow on a sidewalk in a cardboard box to keep the others in line through fear. Either way, we’ll exploit some value out of you.”

Ha, not just that shit. They have made it illegal to even help the homeless half the time. I got yelled at by a cop because I was giving a bunch of people in a homeless camp some food that I had dumpster dived (dove?). They want to make it so we can’t even help people when we have the ability to.

That’s another part of the problem too if you think about it. There are so many problems it feels impossible to address them all. Homelessness, Health care, the criminal “justice” system, income inequality, racism and all that other shit. We, myself included, try to address the individual problem and forget that its all the same problem.

For me,the measure of what’s a 1st/3rd world country (not in the original meaning, in the developed/developing country meaning) is about how well the poor are treated. You can live well in any country on this planet if you have enough money.

But if the poor are left suffering just because, that’s a 3rd world country. And the USA might be just the one with the richest oligarchs.

She and her child will make fine capital batteries for our glorious owner class.

Their desperation derived from social policy will increase their productivity output at menial labor. Which means growth, growth, growth!

This is great news for our beloved capitalist economy! May it metastasize even after all the peasants are dead!

Another victory for the abstinence only crowd. Now they can point to her as an example of the hardships that come from premarital sex/getting raped. “Girl has cell clump safely removed after being victim of violent crime” doesn’t make good marketing material for their message. Scaring teens away from sex has worked so well in the past, why stop now just because of that pesky little thing called data?

It’s a religion problem. Vulnerable people make easier victims for the collared crooks so they have an interest in promoting misery. Tell them that their troubles are a result of sin and take credit for the incremental improvements that come when you bounce off the rock-bottom times in life.

Never mind all the time and money spent obstructing things like access to contraception and abortion that could have turned mountains back into molehills.

So, she’s 13 and we’re blaming the lack.of abortion as the problem? SHE’S 13! That should be the problem.

EDIT: What’s really disturbing is that people on this thread care more about abortion rights that the fact that a 12 year old was raped. You SICK FUCKS!

They can both be problems. We’re not limited to just one.

Stopping rape is a slightly more complex problem than lack of access to abortion, considering the latter was significantly less of a problem last year.

It’s a sick world that someone would rape a 12 or 13 year old. I still think this article focuses on the wrong issue. If I were President, I’d lead a charge to make raping a minor a federal death penalty issue.

Jesus dude, women get raped all the time. Thousands of girls, boys, men, children are raped every day. I’ve been raped. We’re immersed in rape because our species rapes a lot.

This isn’t about YOUR anger or YOUR penalties if YOU were president. This isn’t about you at all! This is about the tragic consequences of abolishing humane medical care and support for people in need. You know, “the least of us” that the christian nationalists love to crucify. Take yourself out of this story and try to find a loving response.

What issue would you rather have the article focus on? The fact that a 13 year old can’t get an abortion after being raped and now she has to deal with the repercussions of this act for. the. rest. of. her. life. is the natural outgrowth of these anti-abortion laws. Most people know rape is bad, and raping 13 year olds is really bad. Most people also probably don’t know or have exposure to 13-year-old moms whose children are the product of rape. Now, at least, we can read about them and maybe, just maybe, question whether this is really the path we want to go down (I say “we” but I can say for certain it’s not the path I want to go down).

The biggest issue for me is the rape. My sister was raped by my dad when she was that age. Fortunately, she never got pregnant. It destroyed my family. That’s probably why that’s a bugger issue for me…

Well, she was raped, so I don’t really know what her age has to do with it here (other than to make it maybe subjectively more bad than just regular old adult-on-adult rape, but I digress).

First, whoever raped her belongs in that special level of Hell reserved for rapists, child molesters and Justin Beiber fans. I’ve said this before, there should always be an exemption for rape, incest and medical necessity. This is one area that I disagree with other fellow conservatives. It’s a fucking disgrace that there aren’t exceptions.

          medical necessity

Ah, so then you understand that by definition, only medical doctors are able to decide what is and isn’t a medical necessity, and therefore how unreasonable it is that anyone else besides doctor and patient would think they should have a say in the matter? Great, glad we got that settled!

By medical necessity, I mean if the mothers life is in danger or the child is not going to make it.

Exactly. And since a medical doctor is the one who is qualified to determine what would risk a pregnant woman’s life, none of us could possibly have a say in the matter because we’re not qualified to do so.

I’m very happy to be able to find some common ground with a conservative on this fine day. I also do not listen to Justin Bieber songs. Let’s keep searching for more common ground and unite our feuding peoples. We can do this!

              How much danger? How immediate?

What’s the line between medical necessity and medical advisability? When do things become a necessity? Take something like the water breaking at 17 weeks. Is an abortion an immediate medical necessity even though the woman’s life isn’t yet in immediate danger?

What happens to doctors when courts decide that they fell on the wrong side of that line?

The problem with things like this is that drawing the line badly or fuzzily and medical mistakes lead to women dying. Abortion was legalized in Ireland after one mistake like that, when doctors didn’t want to violate the ill-specified law and erred on the side of intervening too late. The mother died.

It’s ONE of the problems. Along with a child being raped and the police donning jack all until the press contacted them, and then they did the bare minimum. And the fact she had to have this baby she doesn’t want and can’t care for is now her lifelong problem. And a lot more women and children like this girl are gonna have to bear children they don’t want because of these abortion laws.
