I love videos like this, just random people doing cool dumb shit whilst answering questions I’ve had for years.

Watching them do the chair was… terrifying… Just seeing the rigging they used stretch and jump up in 200lbf increments gave me sweaty palms.

I had to get an MRI at the start of the year and told them I had metal permanent retainers and was slightly concerned. They were like “Nah, you’re fine.” I was like “Okay, just please don’t steal my teeth 😬”

Yeah, I had a MRI yesterday and the eerie Transformers sounds it made at me made me look up videos afterwards.

There were a LOT of signs about not having anything metal on you (not even makeup with metal glitter or whatever)–but this video really makes it hit home. It would definitely steal your teeth right out of your mouth if they had metal attached to them! (And probably kill you in the process.)

Oh yeah…the sounds were something else lol. The technicians gave me earplugs for mine. It is quite a loud procedure strangely enough. The one benefit was that I was able to request the imagery they took on a disc afterwards and then I was able to 3d print my brain from the imagery!

That’s super cool. Mine was for an old knee injury, not nearly as exciting as a brain scan!

I kinda hope I am able to get a brain scan someday. I mean, except for the part where your head goes in that machine, lol. I’m not normally claustrophobic…but those sounds are so friggin weird.

Is the piped bot blocked on this sub, or does it only work with comments and not posts?

I wish all videos defaulted to piped links like my 3rd party reddit app did. I browse lemmy on my phone and I hate that watching videos from this community (that I otherwise wouldn’t watch) screw up my YouTube feed.

Like if I am curious to see a cheesey video or YouTube drama thing, I don’t want that to start getting suggested to me…

Piped is down everywhere at the moment. I believe Google updated their APIs to block it somehow, but it’s not a localized problem.

I can’t believe these machines wouldn’t have some sort of sensors to alert if anything magnetic is on the person, and shut down. It would be so easy to forget ear rings, for example.

I seem to recall having a wand waved over me for this purpose but that also seems subject to human error

It’s very difficult and dangerous to be near an MRI ‘shutting down’. Assuming what you mean is turning of the magnet. The magnet is always on, its a coil of superconducting wire submerged in liquid helium with a very large permanent current flowing around it. In order to turn off the magnet quickly, the electric current must be quenched, which can happen if the coil every stops being a super conductor. The current starts heating the coil, causing the liquid helium to boil off, which doesn’t cool the coils as efficiently, and causes a rapid run-away effect where huge volumes of helium explode out of the machine, displacing all the breathable air in the room and blasting all the doors off their hinges, maybe even breaking windows. There’s a lot of energy stored in the coil. It’s not easy to turn it off.

Look up videos of MRI quenching

Surely it’s better than someone impaling their chest with a metal butt plug

Surely you have to at least pass through a metal detector before entering the room, right?
