I remember Slipknot as being the radio-friendly stand-in for hardcore, with MTV-ish radio hits like Duality. But damn, I forgot how HARD they went on the first couple albums. This is a great example of why plenty of death metal fans in my age range cite them as a gateway drug.

Oh yeah, I got hooked on a couple songs off that first Slipknot album.

Some of my other gateway bands: Static-X, Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, Deftones (especially Adrenaline), Ministry, RATM, White Zombie, fuck I might as well post my whole CD book from high school lmao.

Mudvayne was just a great band. Ryan is a beast bass player.

Totally agreed. Did you ever get into supergroup Hellyeah with Mudvayne’s vocalist?

Lol are you me? This confirms I need to do a “how did you get here?” survey post at some point

I’m hooked on a couple of different bands right now… Vulture Industries is one, they’re kind of an avant-garde prog metal rock band? As the World Burns has been stuck in my head for a week now.

Blackbraid is great as well, black metal isn’t really my thing but he’s got a great atmosphere that I really enjoy.

Nice! I love genre crossovers like that. Winds of Tragedy did that for me recently for black metal. I’ll have to check out Vulture Industries and Blackbraid

I’ve never heard of Winds of Tragedy before, but I just checked out Our Time is Gone and it’s a pretty great song, I’ll have to check out the rest 🙂
