DAY 11 of the 30 Day Song Challenge, alternative music styles!
SONG SO NICE, LET’S PLAY IT THRICE!
Each day I’ll post the challenge and you share some of your favorite alternative & indie songs that meet the challenge!
Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana
Yea yeah, I know there are better Nirvana songs but that one I can listen to forever.
there aren’t “better” Nirvana songs… there are just songs you love, period, full stop. Ain’t no right or wrong, good or bad, in art my friend! The heart wants what the heart wants and if it’s “Heart Shaped Box” by Nirvana, turn that shit up & on repeat!
A few years back, a local radio station played a Steve Albini mix of HSB. If you haven’t heard it yet, I would suggest you go looking for it. It’s rawer than what appeared on the album and after a few listens, I think I prefer the Albini mix.
Arlo Parks - Caroline
I absolutely love her sound and vibe. All of her stuff is worth checking out.
This is very nice. I know I’ve listened to her before but I’m not sure I’ve given her proper attention. I think I’ll give her another shot.
Love Arlo Parks but will have to revisit this song specifically now.
One of few songs I can listen on repeat without getting bored of it
…
This is what you want, this is what you get
This is what you want, this is what you get
This is what you want, this is what you get
This is what you want, this is what you get
…
youtube being weird. Not sure why. Here’s another link https://youtu.be/O0bk6Hbz0ZU?si=Z63dt05MSQeQdGE-
The Order of Death by Public Image
Oh… that’s strange. I changed my country in youtube to Russia, because of the sanctions they don’t have any ads even without adblocker… might have something to do with that.
Must be in. Oh well, all good now!
The Bangles - The Real World
From their first EP, before they became mainstream pop idols.
Waterboys - The Whole Of The Moon

It’s still a perfect pop song ; I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it.Regurgitator - ! (the song formerly known as)
La Costa Brava by Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. This song and album is in rotation no matter what else I happen to be listening to.
don’t cha just love it!
This one is going to be tough for me because I have sooooo many! ugh.
I guess I can start with an REM song, Pilgrimage - https://youtu.be/FvgUD9nnXQk?si=jnPTToy4OjptXu2l
Just having it play in my head, the ending gives me goosebumps!
This is almost cheating. That entire album is wonderful.
Haha! True! BUT it’s Pilgrimage - when that song comes on a playlist, I almost always play it at least twice!
Not “alternative” but….
Lager lager lager lager
Shouting
Lager lager lager lager
Shouting…
Lager lager lager
Shouting Mega mega white thing Mega mega white thing Mega mega white thing Mega mega
Shouting lager lager lager lager Mega mega white thing Mega mega white thing
never gets old for me.
I’ve tried to give it some thought today and I keep coming back to “Preacher’s Daughter” by The Refreshments. Honestly, the first 3 songs of The Bottle and Fresh Horses are just a killer bunch of songs. Maybe the first 4, but Sin Nombre changes the mood.
CAKE - Sheep Go To Heaven
I will never tire of this song. I just love it. It’s catchy, pithy; I just love this song and can listen to it anytime, anywhere, for any reason.
Such a fun song.
It really is.
When Angel Olsen’s 2019 album All Mirrors came out I had this song on repeat.
And here’s another. Radiohead is one of my most listened to bands probably of all time. Here’s one my favorite songs from my favorite album.
Note to self for a Question Of The Week after our 30 Day Song Challenge: What bands totally fall in your wheelhouse but somehow you just can’t get into them?
Radiohead for me. On paper I should LOVE Radiohead. While I like some of their songs, frustratingly the band just never clicked for me. 😢
