All I remember about this game is the Empire bases had a bunch of gaps you had to jump, and I was thinking “How are Stormtroopers navigating this on a daily basis?”
Seems canonical based on the death star in Ep4.
Aw yes, Kyle Kartan is back shooting every Space Nazi in the base on a covert mission to steal the plans for the Death Star. And that’s just the first level!
I hope they’ll also remaster Dark Forces 2 (aka Jedi Knight). Although I fear they wouldn’t be able to do the mighty beard and that 90s FMV justice.
While yes, they should do that, I want X-Wing/Tie-Fighter more.
Never played those tbh.
I had Rebel Assault II for the PSX as a kid. Somehow even managed to beat that one.

Is this the real trailer? Because it hardly looks remastered in any way. It even has the outdated midi instrument soundtrack.
Dark Forces is a bit of a nightmare to play on a modern PC since - unlike games like Doom - there’s never been a reliable source port. So, until now, fans have been stuck with running it in DOSbox with no native mouselook or other modern conveniences.
Basically, at this point anything that runs natively will be a huge improvement, and support consoles too.
As for the visuals & audio, personally I prefer a minimal approach over the way some releases have added pointless bells and whistles like realtime lighting which always clash horribly with the original art style. But I agree it is a stretch to call it a remaster if it’s largely unchanged, even if I prefer it that way!
So… the force engine with Remastered cutscenes? Hopefully this remaster is like the Quake II one and just comes as a free patch.
