      No kidding.

Humans have dealt with rumor and lies for millennia, but today we face unique epistemological challenges because so many previously reasonably trusted sources are suddenly delving into it. This isn’t a partisan reality, it’s universal – previously we might not have liked them, but people felt they could generally trust tv news and documentaries, scientists, engineers, doctors, judges, and elected officials such as the president of the United States to at least be a reasonably solid source of truth, but in a heartbeat many of these have been possessed by powerful and moneyed interests to such a degree that you have to treat them with the same skepticism as your buddy telling you what he heard at the bar that night. The whiplash means people haven’t caught up yet and people are still fighting to recalibrate their view of the world and what they should believe and to what degree.

AI and it’s hallucinations only add a new element to a problem that already exists right now with powerful groups employing buildings full of people whose sole purpose is manufacturing support for different worldviews by hook of by crook.
