But in all seriousness, what the fuck does Britain want with those islands

I mean, it’s not a completely stupid idea. They are an island territory literally on the other side of the world next to Argentina, right? Maybe give them independence instead though I don’t know they have the ability to support themselves effectively.

Maybe Wikipedia and find out they have self-governance & also overwhelmingly support remaining with the UK (UK provides defense & manages their foreign relations) vs Sovereignty. China has no business here, and nothing has occurred to warrant this discussion unless they are publicly giving Argentina a blessing like they did with Russia.

Wiki is blocked where I am currently so thanks for the update. I’m just coming from the stance that colonies across the world aren’t usually a good thing, but if they overwhelmingly want to remain with the UK then by all means.
As long as it’s not a shenanigans vote like how the US acquired Hawaii.

That being said, I do still strongly support the option for both cases (Taiwan and Falklands) to be given sovereignty should they desire it. I just don’t like how it’s always worded as “oh country 1 with colony nearby says country 2 with colony far away should give up colony, how preposterous of country 1 to suggest that!” Also on board with HK getting their sovereignty back too, though they kinda got dicked over by the UK in their agreement.

I actually watched a history lesson on the Falkland recently and when the war was fought there was overwhelming support of the locals for GB to defend the island. Basically all the locals are transplants from Ireland and don’t even speak the same language as Argentina. Argentina feels the Falklands belongs to them but has publicly stated it would not attempt to invade again. GB has also since setup closer defences including I believe an airbase on the island but given the recent issues GB has who knows if they could win another remote fight.

Was there a prior group living there before the takeover or was it more of an uninhabited island chain?
