Just a little feedback since updating to the latest Jerboa version… Loading & scrolling is super smooth!, & no error messages, at least so far…really nice update… 2 things though, the default listing type & sort type are displayed as Local/active, ignoring my defaults in settings… Secondly, read items in the inbox, are displayed, even when set to show unread only… Pretty minor, I know, but just noticeable given this wasn’t the case before the update… Thanks all👍🏼

Just a note for people using the latest, this version has issues on most instances, so expect the following:

    • crash on login (and probably logout) on older instances - if you’re already logged in, most things seem to work
    • crash on “mark as read”

Other than that, from my testing, older instances mostly work. Do note that the popup is there every time you open the app, and that’s intentional so you know when your instance gets upgraded. So, once the 0.18 version goes live, pester your admins to upgrade. At the moment, Jerboa only supports the most recent version of lemmy, and it will likely get the most testing on the latest version as well.

If you have issues, try to replicate it on lemmy.ml on the Jerboa 0.0.35 before submitting an issue. If you don’t have an account there, please hold off on submitting issues until you can confirm they no longer exist on 0.0.35. There are a lot of fixes and new features, so it’s best to avoid the noise on GitHub issues for those.

I’m a dev and can easily run the latest version to test any issues you may have, so feel free to mention me and I’m happy to see if the issue persists on the latest version. I can’t promise anything, but I’ll do what I can. I’m also going to be monitoring this community for the next few days as servers get upgraded and respond to as many as I can.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the new version! A lot of cool new features are in development, and there is talk about some improvements to the release process to help crowd-source testing (i.e. maybe nightly builds?) and smooth out the user experience.

When you say mark as read you mean by open the post or voting, or is there another way to mark as read?

        I mean:

        1. long press to the right of the username in the response to expand the action bar
        2. tap the speech bubble thing with the little dot in the bottom right corner
        3. crash

I was on v0.0.33 before the 0.0.35 update and wow, it looks so good.

Just feels better to use as well. Thank you!

I am seriously impressed by the number of fixes in this release, including a few I was hoping for. It can’t show up in fdroid soon enough! Thanks to all the contributors!

I’ve been using Jerboa since I joined Lemmy about a week ago and have tried other apps but Jerboa is the one I keep coming back to because it just works and looks how i expect it to.

The Google Play Store version crashed instantly on launch after flashing up the changelog (mentioning v0.0.35) but looking at app info it said version 0.0.33 so maybe the play store hadn’t rolled out the latest build. Installed the GitHub release apk instead and had no issues.

We’ve upgraded lemmy.ml to use the new 0.18.0 back-end, so it was crucial that I got this jerboa release out ASAP to be compatible with it.

We’ll have the official release of 0.18.0 tomorrow.

Will there be an arm64 docker image so I can upgrade my instance? I used the ansible playbook to install it and have no idea how to migrate to self compiled.

I feel like we’ll see 100’s of small instances falling behind because most “solo” operators aren’t going to be able to figure out the upgrade process.

I eventually did manage with trial and error but it wasn’t as simple as I thought, the documentation is a bit out of date and the nginx file for “install from scratch” is actually for docker. I still have some issues such as frequent timeouts which didnt happen before.

Anyone else having issues to see nsfw with this release? Was unblurred before and blurred now with no change in my setting and all seems correctly checked… As usual asking for a friend 😋
