    Honestly curious. Schools, nutrition, shelter. Theres some good stuff from civilization, right?

      Depends on what you mean by “good”. Good for people? Sure. Good for generating large masses of depoliticized citizens who go with the flow and don’t challenge existing power structures? Not so much.

      Taoism is the product of a society that had to coordinate the efforts of 50 million people before algebra was invented. When even the slightest conflict can lead to agricultural collapse and mass starvation, people’s philosophy shifts to prioritize stability over innovation.

        What does the Tao have to say about involvement in politics? Did it challenge the mandate of heaven, which I believe existed in the context Taoism is from?
