Brian over at Brainiac75 has a healthy relationship with safety which is good because he messes around with anything he can find that’s dangerous.
In this episode, he’s playing with two of the largest rare earth magnets I’ve ever seen. Each magnet has a pull force of 2650lb (1200kg)
Interesting. I think a simple pully system on one end would have made this much easier and controlled. But I guess then you wouldnt be able to see how crazy strong these magnets really are.
Pully or hydraulic seems like it would be up for the weight. It’s in that range where it’s super dangerous to humans but not that bad for a mechanic.
I think the hard part about working with it is the lack of purchase available. There’s no good way to grip it to hold 2500 lbs without touching the face and he’s trying to mate them together.
I also wonder if you did manage to properly control them, how hot they would get as you pulled them apart.
